January 1997, We are a glossy magazine! And Today’s Caregiver Magazine is now 12 pages larger. Our first glossy cover (Ms. Elizabeth Taylor).

July 1997, our second anniversary (could it be two whole years already?) Our cover interview is a first for the magazine. A father and son team, Nic and Marc Buoniconti of the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and the Buoniconti Fund. Two very motivating people.

September 1997, Our first Caregiver Friendly readers survey is presented and the issues celebrity cover interview is with Robert Urich. Readers have started to send in articles and poems as well as letters and we welcome regular contributions from a group of talented writers. 

November/December, 1997, we create the first in our series of special sections; the Multiple Sclerosis Caregiver.

As Gramp’s condition changes, we created a “transparent world of caregiving” for him where he able to live in a facility down the street from my mom and go to an adult day care center. Mom is with him nearly every day. He thinks he is going to work daily and returning to live in his new apartment. I love spending time with him and talking with him for hours. About what, I’ll never know.

March 1998, I am interviewed on the Today Show, Anne Curry was wonderful and the phone doesn’t stop ringing, 

April 1998, the first annual Sharing Wisdom Conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Mr. Robert Urich was our keynote speaker and he spent a lot of time interacting with the hundreds of caregivers in attendance. A great guy and great singer. The concept of “Sharing Wisdom” goes over very well, as caregivers of people living with many different illnesses and diseases spent the day learning from each other.

At this point, many caregivers have begun to use email as a method of corresponding with us. We move into larger offices (during a hurricane warning). 

August 1998, Salha returns to teaching and continuing her postdoctoral degree. Kate Murphy takes the reigns as Editor.
