From The Editor

Caregiver Friendly and Friendly Caregivers

Believe it or not, it is that time of year again. Every year since 2001, we have been able to review the work of an amazing selection of authors, producers, organizations and product manufacturers who exemplify the truest meaning of Caregiver Friendly. The winners of Today’s Caregiver magazine’s annual Caregiver Friendly awards® are honored at our Fort Lauderdale Fearless Caregiver conference, on this website, in the media and in Today’s Caregiver magazine for their terrific work. In a few weeks the nomination period ends for anyone wishing to enter the 2006 Caregiver Friendly Award® program. And you don’t have to sing a note, model, tell jokes or live in a house with eight obnoxious strangers (unless you already do).

Caregiver Friendly Awards® are designed to celebrate products, services, books and media created with the needs of caregivers in mind and are presented in four categories; Products, Services, Books and Media. Product awards entries include such items as wheelchairs, consumer medical devices, disposable products and accessible devices. Among Services awards are insurance and EAP programs, care and case management organizations, educational programs, Long Term Care facilities, homecare and transportation organizations as well as non-profit agencies. Book awards will be presented for caregiver friendly books and Media awards will be presented to audio, video and website producers.

Award winners will be announced in the July/August 2006 issue of Today’s Caregiver magazine and the recipients will be recognized at an awards ceremony during the Fort Lauderdale Fearless Caregiver conference to be held on May 23rd. Winners will also be profiled on the magazine’s website, www.caregiver.com and in this newsletter.

Thank you for all you do for family caregivers. Your hard work is greatly appreciated.

Take care
Gary Barg

Carenotes

I have been a caregiver for nearly 2 years now and have completely depleted my savings. Is there any financial assistance that I could apply for? I'm down to nothing and have many bills. How do others cope? Please inform as collection agencies are hounding me. How can I possibly plan for MY future? What if I need counseling or psychological help? I'm 50 and live in Ocala, FL.
