Many, many years ago I
sat in a neighbor’s house transfixed by the cover of the
latest edition of an automotive magazine. On that cover was
an illustration of a sleek car traveling driverless down the
highway. The article stated that in the near future you
would be able to get into your car, program the destination
and sit in the back enjoying a piping hot cup of Joe. We
couldn’t wait to be driven to school in one of these neat
cars. Of course, we also thought that our friend’s parents
were digging to China, when the hole was dug for their
swimming pool. Suffice it to say, by the time we entered
second grade, neither of the above mentioned acts came to
pass. No chinese hole and no driverless car.
Even though we may not
have our driverless cars yet, (although that would be the
answer for a lot of sleepless nights for many of us), we may
look back on this year as the one where technology started
to play a significant role in the lives of caregivers around
the world. Terms like Smart Home, Robot Caregivers, PERS,
Remote Home Monitoring and Telemedicine already have meaning
for caregivers. There are even Smart Toilets, but that could
be the subject for another day.
We are so excited about
the advent of this supportive technology that we have
launched a channel dedicated to it, a channel we
interestingly enough call the
Technology Channel. Join us as we keep a
lookout for the latest and greatest innovations of
importance to caregivers everywhere. Sorry to run, but my
car just told me it is time to go to work.
Have a happy and safe Fourth of July.
